Anil Kapoor debuts in US Television series –"24"
Anil Kapoor has been acting in bollywood movies since 1980’s with successful films to his name like Tezaab, Lamhee, 1942 A Love story, and Mr India. After a hiatus from good roles in bollywood movies, he got a break in Slumdog Millionaire, which has opened up new opportunities for him globally.
Anil kapoor now debuts in a popular US television series on Fox chanell called “24”. “24” which stars Kiefer Sutherland as agent Jack Bauer, is currently in its seventh season. Anil Kapoor plays a middle eastern leader, president Omar Hassan, who is on a peace making mission to stabilize the unstable situation of the middle east, while he has personal detractors trying to assassinate him.
His role is pretty meaty and Anil Kapoor’s acting as a poised leader of a nation is pretty good. We may be looking forward to more bollywood actors making inroads into U.S-Television and Hollywood Movies!

(The aim and intention of my reviews is to critique and recommend while not revealing the whole story to enjoy the movie when seen. But minor details have been divulged for a proper review!)
There are not many movies which can get a 5* rating among bollywood movies, but ‘3 Idiots’ is one such well made movie.
Aamir Khan with a reputation for his intelligent movies and very talented acting lured us to 3 Idiots despite its name. When the credits rolled out saying it was a Vinod Chopra movie we were even more assured we were going to see a quality movie.
3 Idiots exceeds one’s expectations of a typical bollywood movie. This movie is not only entertaining, it’s inspiring. Though it has the masala, the emotional drama and slapstick comedy of bollywood movies, the story has no loose ends, the tight script has emotional drama alternated with rib tickling comedy, there are messages of social intent interspersed brilliantly into the movie, the screenplay has a smooth flow , the acting is excellent, the direction and production very focused, the cinematography picturesque, ….”Aal izz well”.
The three idiots, led by Ranchordas Shyamaldas Chanchad/ Rancho (Aamir Khan), Raju Rastogi (Sharman Joshi) and Farhan Qureshi (R Madhavan) are non-conformist free thinkers and students at an elite engineering college. Rancho together with his friends questions the high pressure competitive educational system which curbs creativity, learning and invention and mocks the rote system to succeed in examinations. Rancho also preaches many life lessons such as - reach for excellence, success follows; following your heart; self actualization and passion be the driving force for one’s path in life…
Aamir Khan as Rancho steals the show, his acting as always is brilliant. Surprisingly Aamir looks young and in shape to pass of as a college student! Aamir’s co actors from 'Rang de Basanti', Sharman Joshi as Raju and Madhavan as Farhan have excellent performances in their delightful roles. Kareena Kapoor as Pia, excels even in the relatively smaller role compared to the 3 protagonists.
The talented actor Boman Irani plays the conformist educator Viru Sahastra Buddhe /Virus who lays down the do or die rules, the competitive pressure and the disciplines which Rancho loves to challenge. In contrast to Rancho, Omi Vaidya plays the role of an irritating conformist and rote learning geek, Chatur Ramalingam/ Silencer. The new comer Omi too has a good act.
What makes this movie impressive is the direction and production by Hirani and Chopra. Though it reminds you of Hiranis’ and Chopras’ humanistic approach in 'Munna Bhai MBBS' and 'Lage Raho Munna Bhai' or Aamir Khans squeal to recognize self worth in 'Tarre Zameen Par'; The exuberant story of 3 Idiots with its perfect balance of hilarious comedy, emotional drama, tear jerking emotions and social message weaved together makes it one of the best movies of bollywood in the recent past.
It’s a great family entertainer, one of the few bollywood movies in the recent past which could be watched by the whole family. Hilarious sequences to watch for are, ragging, toilet humor, slapstick humor, college humor, wedding humor, funeral humor, speech humor, sensitive humor( even sensitive situations eg. at Raju’s poor parents home are given a touch of humor to make the movie a lighter watch)
The colorful dialogs and songs like “All izz well…” will keep the movie memorable for a long time. It’s undoubtedly a must watch movie!
